Iyengar Yoga

with Nicola Tiburzi

The Iyengar method works on the principle of meditation in action. Practitioners concentrate closely on the movements in the yoga postures (asanas), bringing the body into balance by increasing mobility, stability, strength and alignment. At the same time, this intense concentration draws the attention inward, quieting and integrating mind and body.

“NEW” Class descriptions

The Practice – this class offers an experience of a well rounded practice. The first half  asanas practiced in a fluid manner to build sensitivity and stamina, the latter portion passive or supportive poses and pranayama (breathing) to further the “quiet” internal connection. Basic technique learned in beginner class, knowledge of how to use props, are necessary prerequisite. For the purpose of gaining inner knowledge and building a home practice, the sequence will repeat weekly and vary with change of seasons.

Beginner – The teacher works with each student to assist assimilation of the basics, safely achieving foundational poses, sometimes using props, i.e blankets or blocks. Most classes begin with standing poses, then focus on variety of each type of poses, ending with deep relaxation. Each class builds upon the one before enhancing your learning experience. Beginner “Iyengar” Hatha yoga classes are suitable for new students, but also students of yoga from a different tradition.

All levels – classes are suitable for those who have taken a minimum of 6 months of Beginner Iyengar yoga.
