YOGA BY THE SEA WELLNESS SOCIETY – Yoga by the Sea History
2006-2025
Yoga by the Sea in Roberts Creek, BC, has been a cherished local yoga studio and a cornerstone of the local wellness community in the Heart of Roberts Creek. Its history is rooted in the vibrant and diverse culture of Roberts Creek, a small, picturesque town on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia known for its natural beauty and strong sense of community.
Origins and Founding
Yoga by the Sea was founded by Marney Coulter and Lyne Lantaigne in 2006 inspired by a vision to create a serene space where individuals could practice yoga and cultivate physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The studio was established to create a dedicated yoga space in Roberts Creek, which was already known for its artistic and alternative lifestyle. The doors were opened the first weekend in April 2006 with a drum circle workshop. In 2009, Marney became sole owner/proprietor and expanded the studio to include an additional studio space and a wellness center. In 2018, Yoga by the Sea incorporated.
Development and Growth
From its humble beginnings, Yoga by the Sea quickly became a destination for both locals and visitors. Since 2006, our dedicated and experienced teachers — with generous hearts and deep personal knowledge —have offered a variety of classes and services, including yoga, meditation, pilates, tai chi, bodywork, therapy, kirtan chanting, karma yoga and advanced learning based on Self-inquiry and the Classical 8 limbs of Ashtanga Yoga.
The studio has offered a variety of yoga classes, and healing arts, catering to different skill levels and styles, including Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, and Restorative yoga. The inclusive and welcoming atmosphere attracted a diverse clientele, from seasoned practitioners to beginners.
There has been a commitment to creating a welcoming, respectful and inspiring community for all people, all bodies and all ages, in a sacred and healing space that is a loving, accepting, joyful, peaceful and safe environment for all, with an aim to offering a sense of ease in life, discovering more clarity, experiencing more love, and being able to live more fully in the present moment.
